Abecab 5/20 Tablet

Amlodipine - Used for: Treating high blood pressure and angina (chest pain). It may be used alone or with other medicines. It may also be used for other conditions as determined by your doctor. Amlodipine is a calcium channel blocker. It works by widening blood vessels to reduce chest pain and high blood pressure. It also widens arteries in the heart, which increases blood flow to the heart. Pharmacology: Inhibits movement of calcium ions across cell membrane in systemic and coronary vascular smooth muscle. Indication: Treatment of hypertension; treatment of chronic stable angina; or vasospastic (Prinzmetal or variant) angina; reduction of the risk of hospitalization caused by angina; reduction of the risk of coronary revascularization procedure in patients with recently documented coronary artery disease (CAD).

Amlodipine belongs to the dihydropyridine (DHP) class of calcium channel blockers (CCBs), the most widely used class of CCBs. There are at least five different types of calcium channels in Homo sapiens: L-, N-, P/Q-, R- and T-type. It was widely accepted that DHP CCBs target L-type calcium channels, the major channel in muscle cells that mediate contraction; however, some studies have indicated that Amlodipine also binds to and inhibits N-type calcium channels (see references in Targets section). Similar to other DHP CCBs, Amlodipine binds directly to inactive L-type calcium channels stabilizing their inactive conformation. Since arterial smooth muscle depolarizations are longer in duration than cardiac muscle depolarizations, inactive channels are more prevalent in smooth muscle cells. Alternative splicing of the alpha-1 subunit of the channel gives Amlodipine additional arterial selectivity. At therapeutic sub-toxic concentrations, Amlodipine has little effect on cardiac myocytes and conduction cells. Amlodipine helps to keep your blood pressure under control.

Amlodipine relaxes your blood vessels and this helps to lower your blood pressure. It may be used on its own or together with other medicines. Amlodipine may also be used to treat other conditions, for example, chest pain.
