What is orlistat (Xenical)?
Orlistat blocks some of the fat that you eat, keeping it from being absorbed by your body.
Orlistat is used together with a reduced-calorie diet and weight maintenance to treat obesity in people with certain risk factors (such as diabetes, high blood pressure, and high cholesterol or triglycerides).
Orlistat may also be used for other purposes not listed in this medication guide.
It is dangerous to purchase orlistat on the Internet or from vendors outside of the United States. Medications distributed from Internet sales may contain dangerous ingredients, or may not be distributed by a licensed pharmacy. Samples of "Alli" purchased on the Internet have been found to contain sibutramine (Meridia), a prescription weight loss medication that can have dangerous side effects in certain people. For more information, contact the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) or visit .
First of all, Xenical is an FDA approved drug that has been shown to be quite effective during many clinical studies among hundreds of patients. Xenical is an effective diet pill that works like a filter for fat.
Also Xenical is a safe weight loss pill. It works in the stomach and digestive tract and is not a psychoactive drug that becomes habit forming. Xenical is easy to obtain online due to its safe nature.
Another Xenical advantage is that it can be obtained in an effective generic version. Alli 60 mg can be legally sold online as an ‘over-the-counter’ drug without a prescription.
Alli – Non-Prescription Version of Xenical
Over-the-counter drugs are medicines like Alli 60 mg that may be sold directly to a consumer without a prescription from a health care professional, as compared to prescription drugs like Xenical 120 mg which may only be sold to consumers possessing a valid prescription.
Alli can be purchased online without a prescription. The only difference between Xenical 120 mg tablets which require a prescription and Alli 60 mg tablets which do not require a prescription, but can be purchased over-the-counter is the dosage of each tablet. Since Alli 60 mg is half the dosage of Xenical 120 mg, you might try taking two Alli tablets in order to achieve the same effects as taking one Xenical tablet. However, you should check with your doctor before taking this risk.

FDA has approved only 2 versions of Orlistat (the active ingredient) for online sales in the U.S:
1. Xenical 120 mg by prescription only.
2. Alli 60 mg without a prescription (over-the-counter).
Xenical contains 120 mg of Orlistat and is prescribed to people with a BMI (Body Mass Index) greater than 30.
Alli contains 60 mg of Orlistat and is prescribed to people with a BMI equal to or higher than 25 who consume a low-calorie, low-fat diet.
Xenical 120 mg is 15% more effective than Alli 60 mg
Traditionally, Orlistat has been available in one 120 mg dose and sold under the brand name Xenical. It is produced by Roche and has been available only by prescription since 1999.
The American company GlaxoSmithKline Consumer Healthcare presented the results of their own research in 2007 to show that their version of Orlistat (Alli) available in 60 mg doses was only 15 percent less effective than Xenical. In other words, Alli 60 mg provided roughly 85 percent of the effectiveness of Xenical 120 mg.
In theory, the reduction of the dosage helps to reduce the frequency of side effects.
Xenical 120 mg Weight Loss
If you are on a 2000 calorie diet which contains 30% fat, 120 mg of Xenical will block about 22 grams of fat which is equal to about 200 calories per day.
At this rate, one month of treatment will reduce your caloric intake by 6000 calories which will, in turn, reduce your weight by nearly 2.2 lbs, or nearly 25 lbs per year of treatment. (buy green bean coffee)
Generic Orlistat
Generic substitutes for Xenical are medications that contain Orlistat, but they are known by different names (not Xenical) which depends on the country where the generic drug is produced. To date, we know of at least four different generic Orlistat brands:
1. Xenical, produced by the Swiss company Roche since 1999.
2. Alli, produced by the American company GlaxoSmithKline since 2007.
3. Orsoten, produced by the Slovenian company Krka since 2009.
4. Obelit, produced by Indian manufactures.
How Effective is Generic Orlistat
Clinical trials that were conducted in Russia in 2009 where carried out with the purpose of comparing the effectiveness of generic Orlistat with the original brand Xenical with which obese patients were more familiar.
Krka, the leading generic company from Slovenia, spent 12 weeks studying the difference between Xenical produced by the Swiss company Roche and Krka’s own brand Orsoten. Each pill contained 120 mg of Orlistat, same amount of the chemical substance that is included in Xenical produced by the Swiss company and twice as much contained in Alli produced by the American company GlaxoSmithKline.
